POKOTABI / Minraku
中国料理 みんらく
Try Chāten-don, Tianjin-style omelette rice served over fried rice, or Taiwanese ramen with beef offal. Other choices include a Sara Udon and fried rice set, plus a lunch special with a choice of main dish.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tianjin-style omelette rice is usually served over steamed rice, but Minraku gives it a twist with its Chāten-don, made with fried rice instead. It comes in salt or soy sauce flavours, with fluffy egg and sauce layered over the rice for a hearty bowl. One diner chose the soy sauce version and found the mild sauce went well with both the egg and fried rice. It is an appealing option if you would like to try a different take on a familiar dish.
For noodles, the restaurant’s original Taiwanese ramen is another distinctive choice. It uses beef offal rather than the more typical minced meat, and the menu also lists beef-offal ramen in a soy sauce broth. One diner described the Taiwanese ramen as only mildly spicy. Another enjoyed the combination of noodles and broth in the classic soy sauce ramen and said they would like to try something else next time.
There is plenty of choice among the fried noodles, too. Gomoku yakisoba is seasoned with soy sauce and topped with plenty of egg; one diner who ordered it noted the noodles’ pleasantly chewy texture. For lightly fried noodles, try Shanghai yakisoba, or choose Sara Udon, with crisp noodles and a thick sauce with vegetables and seafood. A diner who ordered the Sara Udon and fried rice set enjoyed the texture of the fried rice as well as the consistency of the sauce.
At lunch, the service special runs from 11:00 to 14:00 and lets you choose a main dish, such as sweet and sour pork, karaage, shrimp in chilli sauce or Sara Udon. One diner who chose the sweet and sour pork recalled crisp batter coated in sweet-and-sour sauce, with a flavour that went particularly well with rice. The menu also includes individual dishes and set meals, leaving plenty of ways to put a meal together.
